Preparing for a Great Year
Each year, in partnership with Visionary Youth the Sunday before the first day of school many staff, volunteers, and community members fill the 11th St. block of downtown Lincoln. Annually we put our resources together to make ensure our local youth start their school year off right. We provide free haircuts and styles, backpacks with school supplies inside, socks, underwear, and a voucher for a brand-new pair of shoes from Scheels. Local barbers and stylist volunteer to do cuts and styles, the supplies are donated by the community, local business, and organizations.
Over 2,500 people in attendance, over 900 backpacks were handed out, roughly 600 haircuts and styles were given, and 688 shoe vouchers were handed out.
This event is held annually at the College of Hair Design In addition the items given out, we have free food, local vendors, and live entertainment.
“By having this event and ensuring our students start the year off right, they are confident, empowered, and prepared to go in with a positive get’em attitude, which is important when you’re going into a new school year facing so much newness.”
